Your health remains our highest priority, and Northern Rehab remains available to take care of your physical therapy (PT) needs at all 4 locations including DeKalb (Sycamore Road and Lincoln Highway), Genoa, and Rochelle. We realize that many community members are concerned with the escalating news of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, to provide another option for those who no longer wish to see us at one of clinics while they shelter in place and to ensure you can communicate effectively with your physical therapist while continuing your therapy at home, Northern Rehab is implementing Telehealth, or “e-visit” PT appointments as an option. This technology allows you to have a “virtual” PT appointment by video conference with your Physical Therapist in the comfort and safety of your home.
What you will need:
- A working computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with a front camera.
- A fully charged device, or full access to power.
- A good internet connection.
- An e-mail address.
- A private room with space to move around that is well-lit so your physical therapist can see you.
Scheduling a Telehealth appointment is easy! You can call Northern Rehab to schedule an appointment. Once your Telehealth appointment is scheduled, you will receive an e-mail invitation with instructions how to proceed, so be sure to let our staff know the best e-mail to use for this appointment.
If you have not had physical therapy in a while and wish to return, remember that we can treat patients without a physician prescription. This is especially important if you would like to avoid the doctor’s office or hospital at this time. If your insurance policy requires a physician referral, we will work with your primary physician to attempt to help you meet this requirement following your first visit.
Our office staff is available to help you understand your insurance benefits. Many insurance companies are adding telehealth as a covered PT benefit due to the pandemic but are still developing guidelines. Insurance coverage for telehealth or e-visit PT appointments may vary, so it is your responsibility to check with your insurance company to see if telehealth is a covered benefit for physical therapy. Our current understanding is that Medicare will pay for at least one “e-visit” at the normal 80% coverage.
Feel free to call us with any questions, to explain the details, or to schedule a Telehealth PT appointment. Appointments in our clinics are still available for patients that prefer in-clinic treatment, and if you have not had PT for a particular problem previously, the first visit will need to be in one our clinics. We’d be happy to assist in answering any questions you may have.
Wishing you and your families the very best health!
