Liza Piper Completes Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Training

Liza Piper, PT, MPT, physical therapist at Northern Rehab in Genoa, recently completed extensive training in pelvic floor rehabilitation through Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute. The pelvic floor is made of up muscles, ligaments and connective tissues that comprise the base of the pelvis. Pelvic floor physical therapy involves assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor musculature and surrounding structures by a pelvic floor trained physical therapist. The musculature throughout the pelvic floor can become tight or get strained, similarly to any other muscle throughout the body, and will be assessed for dysfunction including tightness, weakness and pain. The treatment will be individualized to meet each patient’s specific needs to help improve pain and function. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help with pregnancy and post-partum, premenopausal symptoms or pain, pelvic organ prolapse, frequent urination, leakage of urine, gas and/or feces, constipation, sacroiliac joint pain, or low back, hip, abdominal or tailbone pain, and much more.

Liza Piper has been a physical therapist with Northern Rehab since 2012. She has a thorough background in treating orthopedic conditions as well as treating visceral restrictions which will provide a comprehensive approach to each patient’s pelvic floor rehabilitation. Liza believes in treating patients as a whole to improve their pain and optimize their function as well as promote education and encourage patients to take ownership of their health journey.

A physician’s prescription is not required to receive physical therapy treatment. If you think that you might benefit from pelvic floor therapy, or if you have questions, please contact Liza at 815.784.6417 and she’ll be happy to answer any questions or concerns.
