We are pleased to announce and present our annual Genoa-Kingston High School 2020 Sports and Health Scholarship to Olivia Simmons!
Olivia Simmons, a recently graduated senior at Genoa-Kingston High School, was chosen for her outstanding achievements in athletics, academics, and choice to pursue a career in the healthcare field. Olivia is an Illinois State Scholar, National Honors Society and Student Council member, team member of the Genoa-Kingston High School Volleyball and Softball teams and is a member of both Softball and Volleyball travel clubs. She is also a member of the GKHS Math Team, Scholastic Bowl and Art Club, a participant in the Marching Band and Symphonic Band, as well as a Student Ambassador, Peer Mentor and Tutor. Olivia was accepted into the Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program, and served in Youth Engaged in Philanthropy and the United Way Youth Board. She also engages in community work with Opportunity House, Genoa Chamber of Commerce, Feed My Starving Children, and Goodies for Good, proprietor of customized home baked goods for charitable donations. Additionally, she has been awarded the 2017 Lion’s Club Citizen of the Year, First Place in Photography & Mixed Media at the 2018 Big Northern Conference Art Festival, First Place in Biology Regionals at the 2019 World Youth in Science and Engineering, and achievements at the Varsity Softball All-Conference 2019 and All-Area First Team in 2018. This fall, Olivia will be attending Western Washington University focusing on pre-medicine.
